Haley Joel Osment = “Penistrator”?

Nice Car

Nice Car

East Village blog EV Grieve has been on the beat of who has been making hand drawings of penii on cars covered in snow, and now TMZ has helped them crack the case! It seems that a TMZ pap photographed Osment, who attends NYU, with a snow covered finger over the victimized vehicle.

This is just insane. I literally laughed out loud when I saw this. Get to your studies, Osment!

Date With an Angel

I love ’80s movies, and this is one of them!!! Emmanuel Beart is funny and gorgeous in this film and she’s kind of cool in real life. Pheobe Cates is an incorrigible bitch in the film.

These are my friends: Gold, iGreen, Blue, and Red Che – otherwise known as The Five One. I met them last summer through my friend Kendra. She said her cousin’s band was playing Afropunk at BAM in Brooklyn. They came on just before Murs, a California underground rapper, and I was pleasantly surprised that they were really good.

They’re from Virginia, and have a sound akin to N.E.R.D. but defintely make it their own. They touch on everyday topics like work, relationships, interactions with authority, etc. They can have a nice melodic, SoCal vibe and then switch it up to raggae or even punk rock. When I saw them at Afropunk, I noticed that they switched instruments around depending on the song, and thought it was real cool that each member can play more than one instrument. They have a site called Deuce Day World where they interact with friends and fans as their music can be heard, and sometimes downloaded, on that site.

In 2009, the Five One is creating 51 remixes. They will release these remixes every Thursday (Deuce Day). This week they have remixed Lykke Li’s “Little Bit”. I love how these guys have such eclectic (and sometimes eccentric (Red likes Gogol Bordello) tastes in music to even reach from the international music scene (Lykke Li is Swedish) and become inspired. One mix from last year was a take on Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown”. iGreen waxed poetic about the financial meltdown and credit crunch on Wall Street and other American businesses, and why the government can’t bail out the average citizen.

Not only will you find their music on Deuce Day World, but you’ll also find somethings that the members of the band find interesting as well as members of the site. It’s hugely interactive and membership grows everyday. Being that the members of the band identify themselves with colors, of course, new members to the site must pick a color. Mine is pruple. What’s yours?

prince-harry-speaks

I meant to post this a few days ago, but it slipped my mind. Prince Harry of Wales was busted calling a fellow soldier a “paki” and another soldier “raghead”. This is the same royal who was pictured on one Halloween dressed as a Nazi. He has since apologized for both incidents respectfully. I’m not exactly surprised by this, not because of what I think of Harry’s mindset but because I know that soldiers (US or British) tend to use rather harsh language, especially when it pertains to who is the perceived enemy. I’m more shocked that there is a video of him saying things like that. The British Ministry of Defense says they’ll investigate his behavior and that name calling and racism is definitely inappropriate behavior.

If they investigate Harry’s actions, they should also look into the actions of his comrades. I’m pretty sure that he is not the only one using this sort of language, especially since he felt so comfortable saying on camera to other soldiers in his platoon. I don’t want to come off as trying to excuse Harry’s remarks, but I certainly think it is hugely unfair to investigate only him unless the British Defense is just talking about an investigation to save face. It does seem embarassing for a royal serving in your army to be caught on camera saying racist things.

I don’t even want to pass judgement on Harry. I think most, if not all, people are guilty of being racist or prejudice in one way or another. Even if you don’t say or do something racist, but you still have bad thoughts about a group of people for whatever reason you’re still a racist. And how many times have you played with a friend and jokingly called them a nigger, wop, etc.? I can say that I do hear a lot of that same “joking” on the streets here in Harlem and in other parts of New York City where there are people of many different backgrounds living and working beside each other.

I guess you could say I consider NYC somewhat of a war zone in itself.

R.I.P. Ms. Kitt

with 6 comments

On Christmas, Ms. Eartha Kitt passed away of colon cancer at 81 years old. She came from being born on a plantation in North, South Carolina to being a successful actress and sex symbol. I remember first seeing her as cat woman when the Adam West re-runs of Batman play on WPIX when I was a little girl and then in Boomerang when she told Eddie Murphy’s character, “I don’t have any panties on.” And that was just the tip of the iceberg with her career! You are definitely going to be missed, Ms. Kitt!

I Have Some Talented Friends

with 3 comments

Last Tuesday night, I went to see a couple of my friends play their sets at Lit Lounge in the East Village. Lee Transue and Lisa Jaeggi are both great singers and guitar players, and very nice people. Another friend of mine, Tyler, sang background and bass guitar during Lee’s set. They both have MySpaces where you can hear their music: www.myspace.com/leetransue and www.myspace.com/lisajaeggi. Here are some photos of the night:

Tyler suited up to play along with Lee, though he had issues with the microphone throughout the set.

Friends from school came out to show support.

Here’s Lisa beginning her set. She had some very funny banter between her songs, especially when she talked about one of her songs being about being in a shitty bar like the one she played in that night and then joke more about how the owner worked hard for the bar the to look shitty. Nice.

Lee singing background on one of Lisa’s songs. I think it’s called “Waiting”.

Highlights of the night each set for me were “Talisman” by Lee and Tyler and “Can’t Spell Believe” by Lisa. I’m glad to know people who I truly believe have great talent and deserve to have a following. I thought I’d share my night good music made by friends. Please check out their websites, and listen to their music!

Why is the killer always so hot?

with one comment

mrj3
This past Sunday was the season finale of True Blood. Lots of things were tied up but other mysteries popped up of course. It was revealed to viewers that Rene, played by Michael Raymond James (pictured above), is murderer who killed Maudet, Dawn, Amy, and Gran because of their relationship to vampires, and he got his comeuppance. We should’ve seen it coming though. He was the only calm one throughout the time the women were being killed. Look at that photo above! He’s got the Benicio Del Toro bags under the eyes thing going on with dirty finger nails, and that Jack Nicholson crazy in the eyes! He just looks like he’s up to no good! The crazy thing is, I always thought his character was cute, but he looked extra sexy when he flipped character and was going after Sookie, calling her a “bitch” and a “cunt”. Don’t get me started on when he grabbed her out of the grave! OMG!
Now that it is a hard fact on the show that Jason is not a murderer, what is going on with him now? After getting out of jail and going to see how Sookie was doing after she killed Rene, he was last seen praising Jesus at a sermon in a church for the Fellowship of the Sun. I’m glad that he see’s that he’s more than just ladies’ man, but I don’t really think that is a good way to go for him, especially now that the vampires seem to be getting riled up over previous murders of vampires, v-juice, and people being murder for associating with vampires. All the Fellowship does is teach hate, and the vampires seem to keep a close eye on who is among their church. Which leads me to Lafayette. First, his supplier is kidnapped and killed by Jason and his girlfriend, then his politican lover says publicly that he is against vampires and that they are the cause of homosexuality. In the penultimate episode, Lafayette confronts the politico on his public stance knowing that he is a hypocrite for doing V and sleeping with Lafayette.
In the finale, Lafayette goes back to the bar after checking in on Sookie. He takes the garbage out to the back of the diner as something comes up behind him. Lafayette jumps on the trash bin but it’s obvious he couldn’t save himself. The look on his face as whatever it was came up behind him didn’t really look like shock to me. He was scared, but I think he expected for whatever it was to come after him. Lafayette was always the character that, aside from Gran, was a kind of moral compass. He himself was already as giving of himself as anyone really could be aside from him selling V, and he was the one that kind of told people to be out with the darker side of themselves. Their truer selves. I’m not sure who killed Lafayette, but I don’t think it was Bill, who was burned almost to death trying to save Sookie from Rene in the daylight and told Sookie that he fed. I really doubt that Bill would feed on anyone that Sookie said was a friend to her. Some possible choices to me are the congressman, the good ol’ boys Lafayette beat up earlier in the series, Jessica, or some other dark being.
On the subject of dark beings, what is Maryann? I’ve read online from some people who’ve read the books that she’s a maenad, a creature that feeds off of debauchery and chaos. That would explain why she’s a “social worker”, but what is her realtionship to Sam? She knows he’s a shape shifter and can turn into a dog, but things don’t seem good between them.Toward the end of the finale, Sam was seen shovelling money from his bar’s safe into a bag while watching the door. Sam does own a lot of property in Bon Temps that actually used to belong to Detective Andy Belflour’s family. And what is up with Belflour? He seems so bent on proving himself for some reason. He’s definitely bitter of Sam, and he seems to have (had) a thing out for Jason when there were no clues as to who the serial killer was. I hope we get some background on the Detective and his brother, Terry. Terry Belflour seems like a nice guy who came back traumatized after his tour in Iraq. I like how was flirting with Arlene (poor woman; she was engaged to Rene) and she seemed receptive. Terry flirted with her in an earlier episode and seemed to like it then, maybe there always was something there but she and Rene were involved, so she couldn’t really explore it. Perhaps, if they get together Terry can teach Arlene how to not be a big damn bigot!
Back to Maryann, what does she with Tara? I’m guessing she’s holding something over Sam and is using Tara to get to Sam, as she already has. That maid stole Tara’s cell phone and deleted Sam’s messages on her phone before she could listen to them. And who or what is “Eggs” Benedict? He’s cute and seems sweet but like Tara said it could be too good to be true. Is he even human, or is he a creation of Maryann or even Maryann herself?
Why couldn’t Eric and Pam tame Jessica, the new vampire Bill made as his punishment for killing another vampire? She is really bratty, obnoxious, and annoying. I’m surprised Eric and Pam brought her to Bill’s place. Although, I did like the out nice twin set that Pam was wearing. She looked rich, waspy, and maternal in it!
A few were tied up: found (and killed) the murderer and Sookie seems to be back with Bill, for the time being, but so many questions were left unanswered: What is Jason doing with the Fellowship of the sun? What is Bill going to do with Jessica and Sookie? Who killed Lafayette? Is Maryann blackmailing Sam? Why was Sam packing up all that money? Is he ever going to tell Tara he’s a shapeshifter? Is Tara going to be okay? Does Bill have an alterier motive for being with Sookie? Is Sookie simply telepathic, or is there more to her that she doesn’t know about but that her grandmother knew?
I guess we’ll have to wait until Summer 2009…

Mr., you are too old for this!

Don Cornelius was arrested on Friday night for domestic violence. Seriously, Mr. Cornelius? I know you must be mad that Soul Train  was canceled, but you shouldn’t take your anger out on other people! Violence isn’t the way, and only adds to your problems. Looks like being a bitch is one of them…

Malibu Noche Blanca Party at Hiro Ballroom

without comments

Last night, I dragged my friend with me to a party at the Hiro Ballroom called Malibu Noche Blanca sponsored by Malibu Rum and hosted by Jaslene from America’s Next Top Model. First, I’ll explain that I don’t usually go to a lot of parties nor am I a photographer. I just felt inspried by the atmosphere to take photos and I always take my camera with me, just in case. Second, Jaslene makes a lame hostess. Third, The party was great. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Although that might’ve been from the Malibu waitresses handing out free mixed drinks with, of course, Malibu Rum. The DJs played raggae, raggaeton, and raggaeton mixes that got everyone dancing, even thugs in the place. I ran into a dude I that works Vibe magazine. I was glad he recognized seeing as I was just a lowly intern when I worked their. We met some skater guys who were really gorgeous. On our way home we walked slow from our heels hurting our feet, and we took our shoes off while standing at a busstop (sans lollipop) to relieve our feet. Well, the bus came as we were both barefoot, and we ran for it on the cool, wet street. Oh yeah, it drizzled last night, too. Back to the party. Here are some photos that I took of last night:

All in all, it was a great night. My friend and I danced with people we’ve never met and probably won’t meet again, drank free drinks, and killed our feet with heels.
